Personal Project: Alien
I’ve been inspired + mildly obsessed by the moment in the film Alien where Siogourney Weaver’s character undresses down to her small cotton underwear after fighting the alien to finally exhale to be alone and to be safe. I commissioned friend + ceramic artist Zena Segre to create a white porcelain wearable astronaut helmet that came out at 35lbs + incorporated fasteners and straps.
The pandemic delayed this project & put the moment on pause for me to examine further the elements I was originally fascinated by—fear, vulnerability, beauty, androgyny, outer space, bravery, and what it means to people to feel safe.
I’m so proud of these images, and of the small & fiercely talented team that helped to create them. I’m also proud of the personal peace I’ve found with what creates vulnerability for myself + how that can be uncomfortable and really beautiful. Special thank you @annapalma and @zsegre for your patience, visions, and general extraterrestrial incredible help in making this personal project happen & shine.
